History of the Bijou Springs  Hunt

The Bijou Springs Hunt was established in 1984 when the Rivers Divide Hunt was dissolved by the owners. The founding members of the new hunt  drafted hounds from several regional hunts, and began their season with 4 couples on their same fixture, the incomparable Bijou Basin. In 1993 the Hunt was recognized  through the Masters of Foxhounds Association. We currently hunt in several fixtures, primarily at the King's LazyK 11 ranch east of Kiowa. This is a member owned pack, and our membership is closely involved with the day to day activities of the Hunt.

Organization

The Bijou Springs Hunt is incorporated as a Colorado nonprofit (501C7) organization. The structure is typical of other foxhunts and corporations operating in accordance with the laws of the State of Colorado and the United States.

The Joint Masters are responsible for the Hunting Operations. The Board of Directors, Officers and Members, are responsible for the Corporate, Financial, and Social operations of the Hunt. The Honorary Secretary is the official correspondent of the Hunt and serves as the primary point of contact for the Hunt. The Masters and Honorary Secretary are elected to permanent positions. The Board of Directors are elected to two year terms, staggered to maintain continuity. The Masters appoint Members of the Hunt Staff and the Fieldmaster. Appointments are permanent until changed or terminated at the discretion of the Masters. The Board of Directors elects its Officers from within to positions of President, Vice President, Secretary (Corporate) and Treasurer. The Board represents the Membership and normally meets once a month throughout the Hunt Season. Off season meetings are held as necessary.

Meetings are open to any general members desiring to observe or bring matters before the Board. The Annual Membership Meeting is held every Spring at which time the current status of the Hunt is reviewed and annual elections are conducted.
