Pony Club Hunt at Plum Creek
Huntsman’s Report
We are through the holidays, and so, also, we are halfway through our season of 2011-12. My time flies when you are having fun. Our hounds are happy and mostly healthy, with some of the older hounds experiencing older hound problems. We recently lost Rocky to advancing cancer, and he was the last of that litter which was the first of our forays into crossbred hounds. Robert, Rocky, Rascal and Reba were all terrific hunters, although getting used to this "hard headed" American strain was somewhat of a challenge for the staff. Now that we are familiar with their "locked on" hunting habits, we have turned it to great advantage, and the blood of those good hounds abound in our pack today. I, personally, really love this cross.
On a personal note, I need to express my gratitude for the patience and understanding, not to mention the well wishes, help, and support of the members of this hunt, during my family's recent loss. My Dad loved to hear from me after every hunt, and if I didn't call fast enough, he called me. He loved the LazyK and its hills and pines, from the first Opening Hunt, which he officiated. He often mourned that he could no longer go out and walk hounds with me as he used to do at the old kennels. I expect he and Rocky are sitting by a fire staying warm right now. Again, thank you all.
